Policies & Procedures

Our goal is to provide you with professional and therapeutic massage, helping you to relax and heal. We believe in putting people first, being ethical, giving back, caring for the whole self, continual growth, and finding joy in our work.

To fulfill these goals, and maintain a positive, professional, and safe environment, we have outlined the following policies and procedures.

Arrival Time:

In order to provide you with a relaxing, therapeutic massage tailored to your specific needs, we ask new clients to arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete an intake process with your massage therapist. Established clients are asked to arrive no later than five minutes prior to scheduled massage.

We understand that being late is sometimes inevitable; in this circumstance your massage time may be shortened with original treatment time still being charged. Exceptions may be made according to the therapist’s schedule and discretion.

Cancellation:

We kindly request that appointments be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice, out of respect to your therapist’s time and so that we may accommodate other patients in need of care.

Failure to do so will result in a (minimum) cancellation fee of $50, or up to 50% of the amount of the scheduled service (maximum) prior to receiving any additional treatment, regardless of intended method of payment (including but not limited to: cash, insurance, membership).

No Show:

A client who does not show up to their appointment and does not notify us with at least 24-hour notice will be expected to pay the full price of the missed massage with no exceptions. We take our therapist’s time very seriously and expect the same from our clients. Even in extenuating circumstances, please have the courtesy to call and cancel or reschedule your session. If a client is  unable to make their  scheduled appointment, they must notify our office  before the appointment start time, or it will be considered a no-show and subject to no-show fees.

Recurrent Late-Cancellation and/or No-Show:

If more than one no-show or more than three late cancellations occur, we reserve the right to deny further service and cancel authorizations from insurance, if applicable.

Minors:

Minors are welcome to receive treatment at Utah Medical Massage & Wellness. For children under the age of 18 to be allowed to receive massage, parents are required to give both verbal and written consent, per Utah State Law. Parents may also choose to be present for the duration of each session.

Payment Policies:

Payment for each visit will be required at the end of each session. Payment may be made in the form of cash (exact change only please), debit or credit card, Venmo or trade. Failure to pay will result in discontinuance of services. If the client wishes to continue treatment, payment must be rendered prior to any further service. Trades must be written and agreed to by both parties prior to any goods or services being exchanged.

Card on File:

We require all of our clients to maintain an active debit or credit card on file, regardless of intended method of payment (including but not limited to: cash, insurance, membership). This card will be charged only in the instance of a late cancellation or no-show (see above policies), or by the client’s request for payment of services.

Personal Hygiene:

In order to provide you with a thorough, focused massage we ask that you shower and practice good hygiene prior to receiving your massage. Doing so is courteous to your therapist, other clients, and creates a more relaxing environment for you as well.

Informed consent:

At the beginning of each session, your treatment plan will be explained to you by your therapist. Your input is valued and encouraged and will help to determine the best plan of action regarding treatment. It is your responsibility to notify your therapist of any changes in your health condition.

Conduct:

Inappropriate behaviors, comments, or gestures will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Suggestive comments, sexual innuendos, or inappropriate touching of the massage therapist will result in immediate termination of the session, discontinuance of treatment, and payment will be charged in full. Conduct of this nature is taken very seriously and will be reported to a law enforcement agency.

You may choose to converse or not during the massage, but we ask that conversations on politics, religion, private matters, or otherwise inappropriate content be avoided.

The Client-Provider Relationship

In order to protect both clients and therapists from harm, misunderstanding, power imbalances, and ethical violations that can arise from dual relationships, clients and therapists may not communicate with each other through personal channels, invite to personal or social engagements, exchange/lend personal belongings, or pursue friendly, romantic, or financial relationships of any kind.

Privacy Policy:

Client records and health histories are kept in highest confidence. At Utah Medical Massage & Wellness, we strictly respect your rights and adhere to laws regarding patient confidentiality. Files will only be viewed by massage practitioners directly involved in your care. Information will not be released to any third parties without your written consent including relatives, other medical personnel, and/or insurance companies. Records may be surrendered if required by law.

Respect for your boundaries:

At Utah Medical Massage & Wellness, your needs and comfort come first. Your therapist is happy to adjust pressure, temperature, technique, work longer on an area, or move on if you request it. Please be open with your therapist before, during, and after the massage to ensure you receive the best care.

You may choose to dress down to your comfort level, stop the massage at any time, and/or refuse a certain technique or procedure. You will always be modestly draped, and only the area being worked on will be exposed. Areas such as the pectorals, glutes, and abdomen will not be massaged without prior consent. The breast and genital areas will not be massaged under any circumstance.

Therapist Rights:

We reserve the right for our therapists to pause or terminate a session at any time and for any reason. With the exception of a parent or legal guardian accompanying a child under the age of 18, we reserve the right to excuse guests of clients from treatment rooms, and from business premises at any time and for any reason.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the content of these policies and procedures, please speak with us for clarification.
